3-Day Desert Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga Itinerary

1 Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah

DAY 1 - Marrakech ⇢ High Atlas mountains ⇢ Ait Ben Haddou ⇢ Dades Valley

Departure: 8:00 AM from your hotel/riad in Marrakech

Leave Marrakech and head south into the High Atlas Mountains, ascending the famous Tizi n'Tichka Pass (2,260 m). Stop at viewpoints for photos and enjoy the changing landscapes from green valleys to rocky peaks.

Continue to the beautiful Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and filming location for movies such as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones. Walk through the historic mud-brick village and learn about its rich history.

After lunch, drive to Ouarzazate, known as the "Gateway to the Desert," then continue along the scenic Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. Pass through the Skoura Oasis and the Rose Valley before arriving in the Dades Valley in the evening.

Accommodation: Comfortable hotel/riad in Dades Valley (dinner & breakfast included).

2 Todra Gorge

DAY 2 - Dades Valley ⇢ Todra Gorges ⇢ Erfoud ⇢ Rissani ⇢ Merzouga Desert

After breakfast, drive to Tinghir and the impressive Todra Gorge—a spectacular canyon with 300-meter-high cliffs and a narrow river flowing through it. Enjoy a short walk and take in the dramatic scenery.

Continue east through fascinating desert landscapes, passing through Tinjdad and Erfoud, known as Morocco's fossil capital. Here, you may visit a fossil workshop to discover marine fossils that date back more than 350 million years.

In the afternoon, arrive in Merzouga at the edge of the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes, some rising up to 150 meters high. Late in the afternoon, begin your camel trek for approximately 1 to 1.5 hours into the heart of the Sahara. Pause along the way to watch the sunset as the dunes shift through beautiful shades of gold, amber, and deep orange.

Arrive at your luxury desert camp, featuring private en-suite tents, comfortable beds, and a welcoming dining area. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner followed by Berber music and drumming around the campfire.

End your unforgettable day beneath a sky full of stars in the peaceful Sahara Desert.

Accommodation: Luxury desert camp in Erg Chebbi (dinner & breakfast included)

3 Sahara Desert Sunrise

DAY 3 - Merzouga desert ⇢ Draa Valley ⇢ Agdz ⇢ Ouarzazate ⇢ Marrakech

Visit Rissani, a traditional market town and the birthplace of Morocco's Alaouite dynasty. Explore its lively souk and discover local culture, traditional crafts, regional cuisine, and the vibrant atmosphere that makes this historic town so unique.

Begin the return journey to Marrakech via Ouarzazate, with scenic stops along the way for photos and lunch (at your expense). Cross the High Atlas Mountains once again via the spectacular Tizi n'Tichka Pass.
