If you're flying into Errachidia and continuing to Marrakech, this is one of the most convenient ways to experience the Sahara without backtracking.
Instead of spending the first day driving from Marrakech toward the desert, you can fly into Errachidia, reach the Erg Chebbi dunes on Day 1, enjoy a sunset camel trek, and spend your first night in the Sahara.
From there, the journey continues west through Todra Gorge and the Dades Valley, followed by Aït Ben Haddou and the High Atlas Mountains before arriving in Marrakech.
The route is particularly convenient if Errachidia is your arrival point and Marrakech is your next destination. You keep moving west rather than returning to where you started.

Pickup: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM from Errachidia airport or your hotel
Your driver will meet you in Errachidia and begin the journey toward the Sahara.
The road takes you through the Ziz Valley, one of the most scenic areas between Errachidia and the desert. Along the way, you'll see palm-filled oases, rocky landscapes and small villages spread through the valley.
Depending on your pickup time, there will be opportunities for short photo and comfort stops.
You'll continue toward Erfoud, a town famous for fossils, dates and local stone workshops. If you're interested, you can visit a fossil workshop before continuing to Rissani, one of the historic towns of the Tafilalet region.
From Rissani, the landscape gradually becomes more open and desert-like. Before long, the golden Erg Chebbi dunes appear on the horizon.
Camel Trek into the Sahara
You'll arrive in Merzouga in the afternoon and prepare for your camel trek.
Leave your larger luggage with your driver and take a small overnight bag with you to camp.
The camel ride takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the route and conditions. You'll have time to stop for photographs and enjoy the changing colors of the dunes as the sun begins to set.
After arriving at the camp, settle into your private tent and enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner.
Depending on your camp, the evening may include traditional Berber music and drumming around the fire.
Then simply relax and enjoy the quiet of the Sahara.

If you're an early riser, wake before breakfast to watch the sunrise over Erg Chebbi.
The sunrise experience is optional, and you can return from the dunes by camel or 4x4 depending on your preference.
After breakfast, meet your driver and continue west toward the Todra Valley.
The road passes back through the Rissani and Erfoud area before turning toward Tinghir and Todra Gorge. This section is part of the main route connecting the Sahara with the valleys of the High Atlas.
Todra Gorge
The scenery changes dramatically as you approach Todra Gorge.
The road follows the valley through palm groves and villages before reaching the narrow canyon, where towering rock walls rise up to 300 meters high on both sides.
You'll have time to walk through the gorge, take photographs and enjoy the scenery at your own pace.
No long hike is required. A comfortable walk through the canyon is enough to appreciate the scale of the cliffs.
Dades Valley
From Todra Gorge, continue toward the Dades Valley.
The landscape changes again, with red mountains, palm groves, traditional villages, kasbahs and distinctive rock formations including the famous Monkey Fingers rock formations.
You'll have time for photographs along the route before reaching your accommodation.
After a long day on the road, enjoy dinner and relax at your hotel or guesthouse.

After breakfast, continue west through the Valley of Roses and along the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs toward Ouarzazate.
The route continues toward Aït Ben Haddou, one of southern Morocco's most famous historic sites.
Ait Ben Haddou
Ait Ben Haddou is a historic ksar, built from traditional earthen architecture and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Take time to walk through its narrow lanes, see the traditional buildings and climb toward the upper part of the village for views over the surrounding landscape.
The visit normally takes around 1–2 hours, depending on how much you want to explore.
A local guide can also be arranged if you would like more information about the history and architecture of the ksar.
Crossing the High Atlas Mountains
After Ait Ben Haddou, the road climbs toward the High Atlas Mountains and crosses the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, reaching around 2,260 meters above sea level.
The road offers beautiful mountain views and several opportunities for photographs when conditions allow.
Mountain weather can change, particularly during winter (December to February), so the exact driving time and stops may vary depending on road and weather conditions.
From the pass, the road descends toward Marrakech, covering roughly 300 km from Ait Ben Haddou.
Arrival in Marrakech: Usually around 6:00–8:00 PM, depending on traffic, stops and road conditions.
Your driver will drop you at your Marrakech hotel, riad or Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK).
