This 12-day Morocco itinerary is our most comprehensive private tour, designed for travelers who want to experience every face of the country without rushing. From the Strait of Gibraltar to the Sahara Desert, from imperial cities to mountain passes and Atlantic fishing towns, each day reveals a completely different landscape, culture, and cuisine.
Your journey begins in Casablanca with a visit to the magnificent Hassan II Mosque before continuing to Rabat, Morocco's capital. From there, you will travel north along the Atlantic coast to Asilah and the legendary port city of Tangier, where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic. The road then turns south into the Rif Mountains and the famous Blue City of Chefchaouen.
Leaving the Rif, the route takes you through the Roman ruins of Volubilis and the imperial city of Meknes on your way to Fes, where a full day with a licensed local guide allows you to discover one of the best-preserved medieval cities in the world. You will visit the Royal Palace gates, traditional tanneries, bustling souks, historic madrasas, and Al-Qarawiyyin University, founded in 859 CE.
The scenery changes dramatically as you cross the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in Ifrane and the cedar forests of Azrou before descending through the spectacular Ziz Valley to Merzouga. Here, you will swap your vehicle for a camel and ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset. The night continues at a luxury desert camp with Berber music, a traditional Moroccan dinner, and stargazing.
The journey west takes you through the towering Todra Gorges, the scenic Dades Valley, and the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs before reaching the UNESCO-listed Aït Ben Haddou. You will cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass and arrive in Marrakech, where a guided tour of the medina, the Jemaa el-Fnaa square, and the Majorelle Garden awaits.
The final leg of your trip takes you to the Atlantic coast and the windswept town of Essaouira, with its 18th-century sea walls, working fishing harbor, and relaxed atmosphere. With an overnight stay here, you have time to absorb the coastal pace before returning to Casablanca for your departure, having crossed the full length and width of Morocco from the Mediterranean to the Sahara to the Atlantic.
Honest note: Twelve days sounds like a lot, but Morocco is a big country. This itinerary covers roughly 2,350 km. Day 6 involves about 7–8 hours of driving to reach the Sahara, and Day 12 is a 6-hour return to Casablanca. Because it's private, we can stop whenever you want — but if anyone in your group is prone to motion sickness, bring medication. The pace is relaxed compared to our shorter tours, but you will still change hotels most nights. If you want fewer hotel changes, ask us about adding extra nights in Marrakech or Fes.

Morning at leisure in Tangier to explore the medina and the Grand Socco square. In the early afternoon, drive south into the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen. Arrive in time for a walk through the blue-painted streets as the evening light softens the walls. Overnight in a riad in the medina.

Free morning in Chefchaouen. Walk up to the Spanish Mosque for a panoramic view over the blue rooftops. Stop at Ras El Ma, the natural spring at the edge of the old town. In the early afternoon, head south to the Roman ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with remarkable mosaics. Continue to Meknes to see Bab Mansour, one of the finest gates in Morocco, before arriving in Fes in the evening.

Full day with a licensed local guide in Fes el Bali, the largest car-free urban area in the world. Leave Fes and cross the Middle Atlas Mountains. Stop in Ifrane, known as the Switzerland of Morocco, and the cedar forests of Azrou, where wild Barbary macaques live. Sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast at camp, return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4. Drive through Rissani, the ancient market town near the ruins of Sijilmassa, and Erfoud, known for its fossil workshops. Continue to the Todra Gorges, where cliffs rise 300 meters on either side of the river. Walk through the gorge before continuing to the Dades Valley.

Drive the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs west through the Rose Valley and Kelaat M'Gouna, where Damascus roses are grown. Continue through Skoura Oasis and into Ouarzazate, Morocco's film capital. If time permits, stop at the Atlas Film Studios. The main stop is Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the best-preserved fortified ksar in Morocco. Walk through the ancient mud-brick village and climb to the top for views across the valley.

Morning at Aït Ben Haddou for photos without the crowds. The early light on the mud-brick ksar is spectacular. Then cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass (2,260 meters), the highest major road pass in Morocco. Arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon. Evening free to explore.
